Predating Philip K. Dick's "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" (1968) by eighteen years and Robert Silverberg's "The Glass Tower" (1970) by twenty, Simak touches on the theme of artificicial or manufactured human life, and the status and rights of that life versus their creators, and how this relates to the nature of humanity itself. But annoyed by the typos in this version. The many illustrations in the book are real, though, as explained in an endnote, not all are from 1882, the year in which the main action of the book takes place. As a qualifier, I don't read a lot of time travel books, so if there are cliches here, I would not have picked up on them.

This could be forgivable if it was at least interesting, but it's just not that good. Time and Again is a 1970 illustrated novel by American writer Jack Finney. If nothing else, Elton gives a very detailed discussion on the chain of events leading up the Archduke's assassination. I'm a sucker for a good time travel book, and this is one of the best I've read. Half the book is a history explanation from someone who thinks they're clever, but isn't really.
What I like about some of his other works is that they border on plausible but this one simply didn't give me that same thought. If the author were still alive, I'd put it on my dream list to shake his hand and thank him for his talent with words. Most priced under $10 plus books, artwork and more!
It started out ok, but fell short later. Also, not being a Brit, I didn't realize that "He who dares, wins" is a term employed by their military; I thought it was just a catch phrase Del-boy used in "Only Fools and Horses", so that was a neat cultural Easter Egg for me. The characterization is decent, although there are a few times the main character behaves foolishly to prove the heavy handed point of the butterfly effect. Keep checking Rotten Tomatoes for updates!

I love Ben Elton's other stories and I have to admit that I was not disappointed with this one. This would have been better as a short story or a novella.

The pacing was off for the last portion of the book,feeling too rushed, which was disappointing. Time and Time Again is very entertaining science fiction, but not 1984 nor Brave New World. Having read at least 20 of Clifford D. Simak’s books, I can confidently say that he is an author that rarely disappoints. Time and Again, originally published in 1951, is yet another great novel by Simak. 356 likes. This book addresses that question in a historical fiction manner, Reviewed in the United States on January 11, 2016. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness. Simaks' sense of humanity, compassion, and optimism is reflected in this and all other novels of his that I've read in the past, and is a refreshing break from all of the dystopic bleakness, and graphic nature of the general circulation of novels of the genre in more recent times. There has been a real plethora of books dealing with the outbreak of the Great War (I've read many of them).

Instead, it has more in common with Jack Finney's Time and Again, Stephen King's 11/22/63, and Connie Willis' Doomsday Book (though for Doomsday, be prepared to wade through 70 pages of farce before the story knocks your socks off). Simak was a classic SF writer and knew how to weave together interesting characters with creative futuristic story telling and, in this case, something of a surprise ending.

There are a lot of different scenarios and I like how they end up using people from our past and using what we think they would do. I almost put it down half way through, which I have never done before. The ideas in this novel are great and to be applauded. Hugh Stanton, a highly trained special-forces operative, is sent back (courtesy of Newton's instructions) to 1914 to prevent World War I.
Some slow spots, but kept me engaged. Convicted murderer Bobby Jones doesn't have much time. Her previous film, Planet Love, had over 2 Million hits on YouTube. If you're not that familiar with Simak's body work, I highly recommend "Waystation" and "Ring Around the Sun", as subsequent reads. You can still see all customer reviews for the product. As a big fan of his writing, I approach his work with high expectations, yet he almost never fails to impress with his boundless creativity, prodigious literary skill, and visionary sci-fi speculation. It's just too much time trying to sound clever on the why travel without ever exploring the fun nuances of time travel until the end. With Brooke Burns, Paul Anthony, Beau Starr, Christina Jastrzembska. From then on history changes, but not in the way the main character expects by stopping WW1 and leading to a better time.
