It is a fun metroidvania package, and one worth a try even if the genre isn’t your favorite and/or hasn’t stood out. That because it wants to ease you into the (great) changes it’s made to the 4X strategy model. And it does even less to distinguish itself from its predecessor, outside of an extra layer of polish over the proceedings. Sometimes you can even skip a shard if an alternate path appears. It's more streamlined, with a greater emphasis on battle. City spam is always a concern in 4X games. They don’t go towards the city cap, but nothing can be built in them, nor does their influence expand. Those worlds have their own factions, so you'll encounter (for instance) an empire that stretches across four different maps. There are eight major gods you can follow, and each correlates with a broad class of forces: life vs. death, earth vs. wind, fire vs. water, and so on. The closer you get to Ardania, the more danger you will face. You like your AI opponents to give you a challenge in single player. The way Warlock 2 handles religion is one of my favorite systems in the game. A battle that can be rather anti-climactic after all of the fighting you have done to get there. The quest system has a game breaking bug in it that forces CTD for any long games.
