However, Sippy was known to be in financial trouble. Virgil Earp, second child of Nicholas and Virginia Ann (Cooksey) Earp. Virgil Walter Earp (July 18, 1843 – October 19, 1905) was a veteran of the American Civil War and was a Deputy U.S. Virgil Earp was promoted to Tombstone's Chief of Police on June 28, 1881. Nellie Jane's son-in-law, Alex Bertrand, went to Goldfield. In 1888 Virgil resigned as city marshal and he and Allie left Colton for San Bernardino. The following winter, Nellie Jane visited Virgil and Allie in the Kirkland Valley. His own funds financed needed repairs and materials. He had to wait until he was 18 years old.

He served with the 83rd Illinois Infantry from July 26, 1862, to June 24, 1865. As city marshal it was Virgil's job to enforce local ordinances such as those against carrying open or concealed weapons in town. Witnesses saw men running with weapons but could not identify anyone in the dark. Passengers were Arizona Territory Secretary of State, John J. Gosper, and Crawley P. Dake.11 These fortuitously lucky meetings eventually brought him to Tombstone Arizona. Did she succumb to a deadly illness of the day?

After Tombstone achieved city status in January 1881, the incumbent Sippy defeated Virgil Earp in another election. He began selling his farm animals in 1902. Instead, Virgil went with Allie to meet her in Portland, Ore., in April 1899.

Even though Virgil was well liked in Vanderbilt, he lost the election for constable in 1894. Yet when he ran for constable in 1894, he lost.1. Earps were shooting long before the OK corral.

[15] On January 31, Ike and Phin were brought before Judge William H. Stilwell on suspicion of shooting Virgil. One incident required court martial: military property was lost under his responsibility.11 His sentence was two-week's pay penalty. Later that year, according to her letter to The Oregonian, Nellie Jane visited Virgil and Allie Earp at their home in Arizona. 14 John, F.J.D.

Wyatt escorted Doc to his room at Fly's Photography Studio. His face, voice and manner were prepossessing. Virgil and Allie seemed settled in to life in Prescott. The men were well armed with pistols, rifles and shotguns. Some bothersome issues were reported in Prescott's Arizona Weekly Miner: Virgil informed his brothers he was moving to Tombstone Arizona.

The Earps spent time in both Arizona and California during the next few years. "[4] Virgil joined his brothers Wyatt and Jim in Tombstone in December 1879.

On August 21, 1863, he was sent to the ‘83rd Illinois Infantry.’ A minor offense on Virgil’s part led him to be court-martialed. The two of them eloped, possibly in Oskaloosa or Knoxville Iowa on September 21, 1861.1-6 With no documentation, possibly it was never legal. Meanwhile, in San Bernardino, Governor Robert Waterman made it clear to San Bernardino County Sheriff J.B. Burkhart that there could be no more delay — the court order must be enforced. Earp received his discharge from the military on June 26, 1865, and he travelled home. Virgil was nominated as a candidate for Yavapai County, Arizona Sheriff in 1900, but pulled out of the election for health reasons.

[3] On April 22, 1898, The Oregonian reported that Virgil "...is now enjoying a very pleasant visit with her and his two grandchildren at her home, which is near that of Mrs. Eaton, in North Portland." The other: Wilson, alias Vaughn, was shot in the head, but alive. They remained together for a year in spite of her parents' (Gerrit Rysdam and Magdalena Catrina Van Velzen) disapproval of her choice. There is a report that Virgil had not known he had a daughter, but this appears to be an inference from his earlier enlistment date, which is not the same as the time he left for service.

His younger brother Wyatt, who spent most of his life as a gambler, became better known as a lawman because of writer Stuart N.
